Almost July

Been a bit but NO News is good right? Lots going on and all of it very exciting.
First Tony K finished 2nd at Western yesterday after battling for the lead all day. Could he have won if he ran his race? Maybe that was his race. He'll be at CRC the Saturday before BTMR so come ask. Or you'll have to beleive me.
I got a pair if Air Pegasus 27 and let me tell you, I feel energized by these shoes. You would think I was running barefoot or something because I haven't felt this way about a shoe or my running in a while. This shoe has just enough of everything that I need. I want to go run in this shoe. Say what you will about the barefoot people and I am not one of them but ask me about this shoe!
Speaking of barefoot running lets see how many of these 'natural' runners are still running after 42 years. I started running at 14 now I'm 56 and feel new life.

Summer

I've come to a realization; I can't run @ MVP. There is something there that kills my lungs.
I tried last night again and my lungs were almost okay but my skin was itching so bad from all the pollen. Tonight a run in the Garden was great! Lungs fine skin okay. Must be something @ MVP.

Almost

The last couple of weeks have been good. Somethings gotta turn soon. I've run 15 out of the last 16 days. The weather has not been cooperative till this morning. Now it's clouding up and we'll get some afternoon thunderstorms.
This past week was my 19th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe Cindy has put up with me that long. Or have I put up with her that long? hmmm
The running is beginning again to feel good. I just have to go my own pace and do what the hip/back will let me. I'm really looking foward to getting out onto some different trails soon. Not that the Garden ain't BEAUTIFUL but the variety of offerings in my neighborhood is worth a bit of discovery. Each spring the trails become alive and they are different each year.
And I'm beginning to feel like a jogger almost.

Trying

I am trying hard to get the motivation back. Between all the excuses and thinking I may have another heriated disc,it's been rough. But into the sun and wind I go today for day # 4 in a row. For the next 4-6 week I'll wear my heart monitor and keep the HR low. I seem to enjoy these runs and they are easier on the old body.
Take for example Tuesday. I got home from work and had an allergy headache. Sat on the couch and woke up and hour later. I had a nice droll spot on my shirt. I went into the bedroom and lay down. Then OH NO I need to run. So I grabbed both dogs and went into the Garden. Fifty minutes later I was back home. It was so SSLLOOWWWW. But it was a run.
I have finally figured out the difference between a 'runner' and a 'jogger'. A runner trains with a goal in mind; a jogger just goes out and jogs with no goal other than getting out. Do you agree?

Mothers Day comes early

Run Like a Mother, RLAM, book signing was last night at The Colorado Running Company. I have not seen that many strollers since....????? never. It was inspiring seeing and talking to all the Moms who know what is important. Some of the Moms could even understand my 'John Speak' which was a plus! What is most important to a Mom is that/those children! What is important to those children is the Mom! These Moms realise that if they are not active and healthy they are not around for their children. Children want Moms. Case in point my Mom.
Every year she would ask us kids what we wanted for Christmas. The answer Mom quit smoking; we want you around. With a giggle she would ask again what did we want. Well Mom died of cancer. And I miss her. Keep healthy and active Moms. Be around to see your kid become what he/she wants to be. And you know some Moms who need the push. Push Hard for the Children.

Springtime MAYBE

Haven't blogged much the past 2 weeks because there weren't much to blog about. My low back has been hurting and there hasn't been too much in the way of running. Good news is I've forgone the wheat out of my diet and the breathing is much improved. Now I just gotta get the damn low back to feel better.
Today I ran 42 minutes in the Garden. A bit chilly but NO WIND and the ytrails are in perfect shape. Lots of people out there enjoying the weather and scenery. I can't believe the intelligence level of some of these folks. I had to run behind 2 older ladies on horses with 5 dogs running of the leash. They seemed surprized when I past them, with PJ on leash, and asked them to please control their dogs. PJ is aggressive and I didn't want them to fall of their horses when she attacked an un-minded dog. Then I thought wait it would be MY fault for having my dog on a leash while their dog "just wanted to say hi" and their horse threw them to the ground. I'm sure Mark W saw that accident waiting to happen. Oh well.
The plan is to run 30-45 minutes 6 days this week and see what the back does. I just have to take time for myself away from work so I can get healthy. These 6 day/60+ hour work weeks are not doing me any good. So if you come in to see me and I ain't there be glad for me!
